Scorpio Weekly Horoscope: November 19-25

This week starts with a challenging square (90-degree angle) from Venus in charming Libra to Mars -- your traditional ruling planet -- in Cancer. Mars is retrograde until late January -- your energy may be diminished, and home is more appealing than usual. Hence, the last thing you want to do now is put on that nice Libra face, just so you can please everyone. (As if Scorpio would bother?!) Recognize that putting on a front may come at the expensive of revitalizing yourself via withdrawal. Besides, with Libra in your 12th House, nobody would notice if you put on makeup anyway.

On Thursday, the Sun enters Sagittarius in your Second House of Income. The next month is about widening the canvas, realizing the possibilities that will enable you to increase both your financial worth and self-esteem. Embrace your vision now, for soon both beneficial Jupiter and transformative Pluto will be leaving this area of your chart. (You won't have their support much longer to help you build your wealth.)

On Saturday, unpredictable Uranus stations direct in your Fifth House of Creativity and Children. Expect disruptive progeny or artistic breakthroughs. Make sure to wear protection if you don't want to get pregant. On the same day, a Gemini Full Moon in your Eighth House of Sex distracts you from your primary partner or (if you're single) provides multiple opportunities for serious lovemaking, provided you're willing to let someone past your defenses. It feels like anything can happen today, so decide ahead of time how many rules you're willing to break.

Scorpio Weekly Horoscope: November 12-18

The big news this week is Mars' station on Thursday. When a planet stations, it apparently stops motion and moves in the opposite direction. Mars will be retrograde from Nov 15 to Jan 30. As Mars is your traditional ruling planet, its backwards movement should have a strong impact on you for the next few months.

When any planet stations, its effect is more prominent. Mars governs assertiveness, aggression, anger, sexual desire. Expect to feel more easily stimulated or provoked this week. When Mars turns retrograde, though, this energy goes inward. It is difficult to move forward, and you are more likely to benefit from this period by looking back at projects you have already started. Review what's working and what's not -- you may be able to identify the roadblocks to success more easily when you take a breather. In addition, old resentments may come back, and now is a good opportunity to release them.

For those natives with Scorpio Rising, this retrograde will primarily occur in your Ninth House of Travel, Higher Education and Matters of Faith. Mars' retrograde is not the best time to start school, go on a trip, start promoting yourself. The energy just isn't there. Rather, take some time to evaluate how you want to invest your energies in these areas once Mars stations direct.

Scorpio Weekly Horoscope: November 5-11

On Monday, the transiting Moon hits both Venus in Virgo and Pluto in Sag, both of which square each other later that night. The combustible mix of love and power results in obsession, hot sex, femme fatales manipulating their lovers to do their dirty work for them. A seemingly innocent and pure friend may lure you into bed and then steal your wallet while you're sleeping.

On Wednesday, the Scorpio Sun trines electric Uranus in Pisces. Prepare yourself for illuminating thoughts that fuel your creative drive. You may not understand what you're writing or painting or acting out, but just channel the Higher Mind, and in 10 years your brilliance will be appreciated.

Venus enters Libra on Thursday. Romantic trysts must be hidden. Flirtation happens covertly. If you must send flowers to your lover's office, don't sign the card.

On Sunday, Mercury returns to your sign after its retrograde phase. Whatever you were trying to get across to someone in October can now be picked up again. Keep in mind that the Sun squares Neptune, so you may still be misinterpreted.

Scorpio Weekly Horoscope: October 29 - November 4

This horoscope is tardy. I can blame Mercury retrograde, but I won't.

On Monday, Venus squares Jupiter. This aspect is all about over-indulgence. You are likely to spend too much money to please your friends. If you bring donuts to your Alcoholics Anonymous meeting, Krispy Kreme is the way to go. Also today, the Sun sextiles Saturn. You'll look good to your fellow recovering alcoholics if you abstain from eating the donuts that you brought to the meeting.

On Thursday, Mercury finally ends it retrograde movement. As it moves forward in your 12th House of Seclusion, your efforts at communicating will still be unheard, but at least you found that dream journal you've been looking for!

On Sunday, the Sun trines Mars. You're feeling energized to expand your worldview in ways that reflect well on yourself. Ask your grandparents about their "coming to America" experiences.

Scorpio Weekly Horoscope: October 22-28

On Tuesday, the Sun enters your sign. The next month is all about you. I know you don't like to be in the spotlight, preferring to hide in dark corners and dank alleyways, doing all matters of suspicious, underground things. You're gonna have to share a taste of that smack with everyone else, as the public is in a Scorpionic mood. Although we all find you fascinating all of the time, be prepared for an extra dose of attention. Be nice to the paparazzi, and don't hit anyone over the head with a camera.

On the same day, Mercury moves backwards into Libra. When the communication planet retrogrades into your Twelfth House of Secrets and Lies, you must learn how to be charmingly deceptive without getting caught.

On Thursday, love planet Venus opposes unpredictable Uranus. You may unexpectedly get the hots for a friend, or end up breaking laws as part of your street theater protests against the war.

Scorpio Weekly Horoscope: October 15-21

On Tuesday, Venus in Virgo sextiles Mars in Cancer. The planets of love and sex create a sensuous mix, although when they are both in the signs of their fall, they tend to be respectively self-critical and overly defensive. You do have the ability to act on your creative inspiration, especially by participating in a group endeavor to spread an idea via publishing, teaching or proselytizing. Later that day, the Moon conjoins your ruling planet Pluto -- powerful feelings about your finances and self-worth may come to the surface.

On Wednesday, Mercury in Scorpio (which is currently retrograde) trines Mars in Cancer. Now is a good time to assertively communicate about your emotional needs. Rehashing the past -- in order to wrap up unfinished business -- may open up horizons for you, as the energy you had squandered on resentments is now available for more fruitful explorations. Later, the Moon in Capricorn opposes Mars from your Third House of Communication, reinforcing the need to seriously express your frustrations.

On Saturday, the Libra Sun sextiles Pluto. Your dreams and meditative practices are deepened -- use this weekend to dig up buried psychic treasures, thus creating a sense of spiritual wealth.

Scorpio Weekly Horoscope: October 8-14

On Monday, Venus enters Virgo in your 11th House of Groups and Friends. Having moved on from the career area of your chart, She wants to take the creativity that was inspired while in Leo and apply it to some useful end. Professionally, you may want to become involved in an organization that helps you improve your image. On the personal front, you may become more critical of your pals, harping on them for their imperfections. You're only doing it because you like them, but note that they may not feel so appreciative of your feedback.

On Thursday/Friday, Mercury turns retrograde in your Sun sign. When the planet of communication apparently moves backwards in the sky, you are likely to be misinterpreted. Make sure to double-check your correspondences before you hit the "Send" button. It's a good time to complete unfinished business from your past, and since Mercury is in Scorpio, you should take care of back-taxes and made good with anyone you've manipulated. If you're in a relationship, put off talking about your sexual needs until next month.

Scorpio Weekly Horoscope: October 1-7

On Monday, Mercury in Scorpio sextiles Saturn in Virgo. Although the planet of hardship and obstacles has recently entered your 11th House of Friends and Groups, the communication planet in your sign supports your efforts to talk through whatever problems you may have with your buddies.

On Tuesday morning, the Moon in Gemini opposes your ruling planet, Pluto. An argument over money with a significant other or business partner is possible. Later in the day, the Moon enters Cancer and conjoins your traditional planet, Mars. Remember that you're less likely to sell others on your ideas if you come across as crabby. A message transmitted like mother's milk to her baby is more likely to be swallowed. (Is this a bad metaphor or what?)

On Wednesday, Venus in Leo trines Pluto. These planets are in the earthy houses of your solar chart. By drawing on your hidden talents, you can relate to your boss or enhance your rep with confidence and verve, which may help you to build financial security. The planet of love will enter picky Virgo on October 8, so "use it while you got it."

Scorpio Weekly Horoscope: September 24-30

On Wednesday, the Aries Full Moon falls in your 6th House of Health and Work. The Sun shines its light on your self-care routine, exposing how you impulsively jump on the latest diet/fitness bandwagon, without slowing down enough to assess whether it's right for you. The Full Moon also brings on heightened emotions -- arguments in the office are likely, as competitiveness with co-workers heats up. See if you can take responsibility for your part in workplace tensions without acting out your anger.

On Thursday, communication planet Mercury enters your sign. He's been spending time in your 12th House of Secrets and Reclusiveness, and now you are finally able to speak your mind and actually be heard. (Of course, you won't find Mercury in Scorpio speaking his whole mind -- just those parts that he feels safe sharing or that will help him get the information he needs.) But don't get too excited: Mercury will turn retrograde on October 11, and will backtrack into Libra (your 12th House) again on the 23rd.

On Friday, your traditional ruling planet Mars enters Cancer, in your 9th House of Higher Education and Faraway Places. Mars will be in your 9th House for several months. You may want to host a foreign exchange student, hold bible study meetings in your home, or take a distance learning course on your couch. Whatever it is, take the initiative to expand your horizons ... without leaving your comfort zone.

Rebecca Romijn plays a transgendered person on Ugly Betty

Scorpio Rebecca Romijn, born November 6, 1972 in Berkeley, CA, has been best known as Mystique in the X-Men films, and as the femme fatale in Brian DePalma's ... Femme Fatale. Currently, she plays Alexis, a male-to-female, on Ugly Betty.

Like Keith Urban, she has a Pluto-Venus conjunction, but in Libra. Pluto-Venus is the femme fatale aspect, signifying the mysterious and manipulative woman. But Pluto is also the planet of transformation, and Venus symbolizes femininity, which is one way of looking at the major overhaul her character Alexis went through to have a woman's body.

In addition, Rebecca has Saturn in Gemini. Gemini is a mutable sign and has a shapeshifting quality, รก la the blue-scaled mutant in X-Men who could take on any form. Gemini also has an androgynous quality. The Twins can be a hermaphrodite, one part male and one part female. (I'm not equating this with being transgendered, I'm just looking at the archetypal qualities of Gemini.) It can be easy for a mutable person to be gender-ambiguous. (Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp, anyone?)

And at the risk of using homophobic astrology, her Uranus-Mars conjunction in Libra can signify a radically unconventional (Uranus) sexuality (Mars). (Once again, not to confuse homosexuality with transgenderism.)

Why does Keith Urban make the girls swoon?

Country Scorpio superstar Keith Urban is an excellent songwriter and guitarist who sings more about love and heartbreak than about the good ol' U S of A -- particularly because he's from New Zealand. And he's cute, to boot!

Watching the beginning of some concert footage on YouTube, I noticed lots of girlie screeching. Maybe Kenny Chesney gets this too -- I haven't bothered to look -- but how many male country stars have shoulder-length hair and are married to Nicole Kidman?

Keith was born October 26, 1967, and is nearly all Water and Earth. In addition to being a Scorpio, he most likely has a sensitive and vulnerable Cancer Moon (unless he was born after 7:40 pm, in which he has a showy Leo Moon). I have been listening to Love, Pain & the Whole Crazy Thing nearly every day for weeks, and it's evident he feels deeply.

Keith's love planets are in Earth signs. His Mars is exalted in hard-working Capricorn, which can give him a lusty sexuality -- and it's generously supported by a trine (or 120 degree angle) from Jupiter in Virgo. His Venus is in self-critical and modest Virgo, but conjunct Pluto. Venus-Pluto contacts are sexuality magnets, as Pluto intensifies Venus' sensuality and compels the Venus-Pluto person to explore the depths of relationships. The dark side of love is exposed, from power struggles to manipulation to socially unacceptable erotic impulses. However, the heights of this combination include a sense of personal power as a result of having transformed in the crucible of partnership.

Keith's earthy but intense sexuality, combined with his strong emotional core -- that's what makes the girls swoon!

Another astrologer on Anne Hathaway

I just visited Blue Planet Diaries, the blog of astrologer Suzanne Arthur, and noticed that she wrote about Anne Hathaway last month. Suzanne's added insight into Anne's current state is that "her progressed Moon is in Virgo, a two-and-a-half year period marked by much fretting, hard work, perfectionism, and diligent application to one's craft."

Anne Hathaway: A starlet who hasn't destroyed her career

Unlike Lindsay et al., Scorpio Anne Hathaway has managed to avoid snorting cocaine in restrooms and flashing her coochie to the paparazzi. She just may be a starlet who's more interested in being a performer than a party girl. Not to say that she doesn't like to have fun, but at least she's being more discreet about it.

If anything, Scorpios know how to keep their private lives private. But Anne's no ordinary Scorpio, she's a princess. She was born on November 12, 1982, with her Sun closely conjunct Jupiter and Venus in the same sign. Jupiter is the planet of good fortune, and sitting next to her Sun, it bestows upon her an optimistic viewpoint, along with a strong dose of good luck. But Jupiter is also the planet of philosophy and religion. According to Wikipedia, she's a non-demoninational Christian, and her favorite book is Objectivistic philosopher Ayn Rand's The Fountainhead. One may surmise that -- having been raised with "really strong values" -- Ms. Hathaway subscribes to a moral system that keeps her out of trouble.

For all of Jupiter's high ground, it is also the planet of excess, and conjunct Venus (ruler of money and sensual pleasure), it is likely that Anne enjoys the finer things in life, and hasn't suffered too much in the material goods department. As long as she exerts some Scorpionic self-control (or at least keeps her indulgences behind closed doors), she won't suffer the fate of LiLo.

Scorpio Weekly Horoscope: September 17-23

This week, a series of aspects from the Sun and Moon to both of your ruling planets culminates in a head-on confrontation between Mars and Pluto on Friday.

Mars in Gemini and Pluto in Sagittarius fall in your respective 8th and 2nd solar houses, which relate to money, possessions and values. There could be a war between you and a significant other or business partner over what's "yours" and what's "ours." A fight over money may evolve into a power struggle played out with underhanded, below-the-belt tactics.

Be aware of your anger, as a lack of consciousness can result in regrettable acts of viciousness. You may be surprised by all the feelings that comes up around finances. "Money is power" is a Pluto in the 2nd House belief. Or you may find that your obsessive pursuit to achieve security comes at a price ... true intimacy, for example.

Fortunately, Friday also features a contact between Venus and Neptune -- the planets of love and transcendence -- to soften the aggressive Mars-Pluto energies. Venus-Neptune enhances love and creativity, but its idealism may ultimately lead to disappointment. During this transit, your confusion and lack of boundaries at home may contribute to temptation when your flashy boss flirts with you. The meaning of "TGIF" will be in your hands.

Demi Moore's plastic surgery hasn't helped her career

Scorpio Demi Moore apparently spent loads of cash on a total body makeover, yet she's not getting the film roles she thinks she deserves. Demi is speaking out against ageism towards females in the film industry. It's true that an over-40 actress has a hard time in Hollywood, but what does she expect? Unlike serious actresses like Jodie Foster, Demi molded her career image out of her curves. Even after tons of plastic surgery, she ought to work on her craft, not just her looks.

Transiting Pluto -- the planet of transformation -- recently crossed over Demi's Midheaven, the point of public reputation. Unfortunately, the rebirth of Demi in a 30 year old body is not equivalent to the descent into the Underworld necessary to emerge as a powerful actress.

The recent Pisces Lunar Eclipse on August 28 conjoined Demi's Jupiter -- ruler of her Sagittarius Midheaven -- in the 12th House of Feeling Unrecognized (Behind the Scenes). In addition, transiting Neptune -- planet of film and fantasy images -- is in her 12th House making an exact square (or 90-degree angle) to her Scorpio Sun.

With four Scorpio planets in her 8th House (naturally associated with Scorpio), Demi has relied on her sex appeal, but with so much activity in her 12th, there's a conflict between her identity as a hottie and her need to find meaning and fulfillment in retreat and silence. I'm not saying she shouldn't speak out, but maybe by drawing from the well of her unconscious (12th House), she'll actually have something to contribute as a film star.

Winona Ryder's back!

After having taken a hiatus following her December 2001 shoplifting incident, Scorpio Winona Ryder is coming back with a slew of film roles. She was recently in A Scanner Darkly and The Ten, and will soon be seen in the following movies:
In The Last Word, she falls for a guy who writes suicide notes for other people for a living. In Sex and Death 101, she plays a woman out to punish men who commit sex crimes. (link)
Sex and death? Quite appropriate themes for the Scorpion.

When she was arrested for shoplifting, Ms. Ryder had the Saturn-Pluto opposition striding along her Sagittarius ASC and Gemini DES -- in degrees very similar to that of the Sibley USA chart. Not to equate 9/11 with being charged for stealing, but the Saturn-Pluto opposition is a destructive influence, and only now is Winona picking up the pieces to re-establish herself. (She also had transiting Neptune -- planet of confusion and deception -- in her 2nd House of Possessions making a square to her Scorpio Sun.)

Fortunately, she's just had her Jupiter Return, and Jupiter is conjoining her Sagittarius ASC, an expansive transit full of opportunities for this talented actress.

Jodie Foster's private self

Manohla Dargis profiled Scorpio Jodie Foster in the Sunday Times, focusing on her secretiveness about her personal life and her steely presence. Is this not a perfect description from a non-astrologer?
All we can know is what she gives us on screen, with those vivid blue eyes that promise a transparency that never comes and a tight smile that chills more than it warms.
Dargis' thesis is that, although Jodie rarely talks about her personal life (although she has discussed her kids, because it's hard not to!), one can learn much about the actress through watching the roles she chooses.
Graced with a preternaturally husky voice and unusual poise, she had, as a child, always appeared older than she was. She didn’t widen her eyes and beg for love or mercy. She didn’t play cute or look lost, helpless. She seemed self-possessed, in control of her lithe body and alert mind. Her characters drank, stole, cursed, vamped, whored and killed.
Scorpios don't play the cute girl!

Ms. Foster has been rumored -- for ages -- to be gay, but never talks about her sexuality. AstroDataBank provides accurate birth data for her (November 19, 1962; 8:14 am; Los Angeles, CA). Not surprisingly, Jodie's Scorpio Sun is in her 12th House of Secrets. She is a very private person, and it appears that her nondisclosure has served her well -- audiences can focus on her performance instead of her love life.

The recent Lunar Eclipse in Pisces was conjunct her Third House Jupiter, and opposite her Ninth House Moon in Virgo. Transiting Saturn is making its way towards conjoining Jodie's Moon, as well. No doubt, her rational approach (Virgo) to her emotions (Moon) has been integral to her screen persona, but with all this activity, she may have to seriously explore what works and what doesn't. How does her coolness put people off? Does this emotional control limit her choices as an actress? Let's see how The Brave One is received by the public.

Scorpio Weekly Horoscope: 9/10 to 9/16

On Tuesday, the Virgo solar eclipse falls in your 11th House of Groups and Friends. Over the next year, you have the opportunity to develop a connection with a colleague or acquaintance -- someone reliable and modest. You may also be focused on how you can be of practical service in an humanitarian endeavor. This eclipse is in a challenging aspect with Mars -- your traditional planet -- in your 8th House of Sex, Money and Power. Mars is in Gemini, sign of the Twins -- maybe you have two lovers that you're keeping secret from each other, or you're juggling multiple lines of credit. Either way, your need to diversify (sexually or economically) conflicts with a more cautious approach out in the world. A grounded friend may advise you to keep your finances in order instead of spreading yourself thin. Meanwhile, erratic Uranus opposes the eclipse from your 5th House of Play and Creativity. The planet of surprises wants you to experience unexpected delights in your artistic dreamworld, which may invoke rebellion against the voice of reason and spur impulsive credit card binges.

Owen Wilson's suicide attempt

Scorpio Owen Wilson attempted suicide a few weeks ago. Owen has his Sun in late Scorpio, sitting very close to Neptune, planet of fantasy and illusion. This pair is great for the movies, as he's able to imagine almost anything. Unfortunately, Saturn -- which just recently left Leo to enter Virgo -- was making a stressful 90-degree angle (called a "square") to Owen's Sun and Neptune. Saturn is the planet of hardship and weightiness, and in aspect to Luke's Sun, it brings on a sense of depression, a feeling that the darkness will never lift. During this transit, one can feel awfully hard on oneself, feeling inferior and self-critical. It doesn't help that Saturn busts Neptune's illusions, often shattering one's dreams and making manifestation of one's ideals difficult at best. Presumably, Owen crumbled under the pressure of Saturn. We wish him best in his recovery.
